Sligo Track & Field Championships: 20th May 2009

The County Championships for ages under 8 to Senior took place last wednesday, 20th May, when a large group of talented and enthusiastic young athletes displayed their talents over sprints, middle distance, jumps and throws . The presence of guest Athletes from South Donegal Club Tir Conaill added to the occasion and added an extra competitive edge to the strong numbers from Calry ac, Sligo ac, North Sligo and South Sligo.
Such was the strength at under ages that heats were required in some of the sprint events thus this augurs well for the future of Athletics in Sligo.
Many of the participants will go on to compete at Connacht and National level later in the year, while others will continue to improve their fitness with a view to more competitive involvement next year. Sligo Athletics board would like to thank all the athletes who took part in the various competitions and also all officials who helped out during the course of the evening.
