All Stars....
Stacey Kerr had a brilliant run to finish 4th in the Tailteann Games 300m and orla muvihill ran really well in the 3,000m, Another fantastic achievement was that of Stacey Kerr who was part of the Connaught team that made history by winning the 4 x 300mtrs Relay.
Today Killian O'Connor won the 3,000m steeplechase at the National Junior Championships in Tullamore in a time 0f 10.31 almost a minute ahead of second place, also Emily Burns finished 2nd, Colm Bourke continues his return from injury with a 6m10cm jump to finish 5th likewise Rachael Kilgallen finished a credible 5th in the girls U23 800m. Well done to all.
Richard doesn't do things by "HALF"
Sligo AC athlete Richard Gorman from Colooney ran a superb personal best in today's Longford half marathon, Richard ran 74min 29sec to finish 2nd male and third overall just behind our Olympic Marathoner Linda Byrne from Dublin. This is just reward for Richard who trains exceptionally hard and can be seen pounding the tar of the Sligo to Colooney dual Carriageway some mornings that early that the birds haven't even got out of their nests. Richard was no sooner across the finish line but he was heard saying that he now needs to go sub 74...Well done Richard from all in Sligo AC and we have no doubt that we will be very soon reading about the sub 74.

The Tailteann Games schools Inter Provincial was held in unfavourable windy conditions in Santry on Saturday there were a number of exceptional performances by Sligo AC athletes, but the pick of the day was a double by our own ever impressive Zak Irwin, who won the 100mtrs & 200mtrs -the later event in a time of 22.7secs and into a strong home straight breeze, once again Zak is proving that this young lad is a star unfolding in front of us each time he hits the track, congratulations Zak from all your friends in Sligo AC .

Woody Woody Peckers...
It is understood that 6 months down the line and the Sligo AC Grizzly Bears are still sleeping out in Union Wood.. these rare creatures are now so accustomed to the Hill billy life style that one was herd humming the theme tune from the film Deliverence this morning..."Not a good sign", As the Dublin City Marathon is getting closer we can expect to see these bears been reintroduced to their natural habitat "Road Running" in the coming weeks but if not we will have to send the park rangers in to try and hunt them out...
Weekend update..
Congrats to Sligo AC and Sligo Tri Club athlete Jason Mc Morrow who finished in 3rd place in the Westport Triathlon. All Jason's fans will be delighted to see him gain a podium place, well deserved Jay.
Best of luck to Sligo AC’s Zak Irwin, Stacey Kerr, Orla Mulvihill, Orlaith Delahunt, Killian O'Connor, Rachael Kilgallen, Colm Colm Bourke & Emily Burns all in serious contention for medals! in today’s Tailteann Games where they will represent Connaught also on Sunday at the Junior & U23 National Championships.

Sligo AC's stars of the future are also competing in the Community Games county finals at Sligo IT this weekend and we wish them well, and remember where ever you finish in your event you are still a winner...
Fruity Ladies.....
For some Saturday morning means a lengthy sleep in, a cuppa in bed and maybe read for a while...but not for these Sligo AC hardy souls, they were spotted by our AC spy pounding the roads of the county this morning and even stopped for a bit of fruit picking... well done Ladies in rather wet conditions this morning, by the way Dublin is less than 19 weeks away.... :)
Dawn run.. and it's not a horse.."or is he".
Congrats to Sligo AC's Seamus Somers who won the Dawn Run 10K in 35.50 this morning in Carrick on Shannon closely followed home by Danny Hannon with Eamon Dunbar in 3rd place. A good morning's work by the Sligo AC lads.

Pride and Achievement....
Sligo AC members had a great day out in Mullagmore for the Sprint Triathlon today, In very Tough conditions so well done everyone on competing and finishing a very difficult event, If you can get through a swim like that you will do any triathlon. Good performances all round so well done and you should all be proud of what you have achieved. The picture shows what it’s all about “enjoyment” I have heard that it was the thought of the champagne that Sharon had waiting at the finish that got a lot of you through the swim, “Slainte”

The Sligo AC stars of the future were on show again last Saturday in the Connaught finals held in Galway, in very warm conditions each and every one performed to a very high standard and the future of Sligo AC looks very bright indeed, a big thank you to the coaches for getting the Kid's to this stage and also to the Parents for travelling to see their stars shine...

Fast as Lightning......
Sligo Athletic Club U9, U10, U11 boys and girls took part in the Co Sligo Team Event in Skreen/Dromard Community Park last Wednesday evening. It was an excellent evening of athletics and Sligo AC had 52 teams present. 26 Sligo AC teams won medals and will now progress to the Connaught Team Event in Galway on 9th June and hopefully will qualify for the All Ireland Team Event in Cork at the end of June. A massive well done to all these young athletes who are our stars of the future and also a big well done and thank you to the Sligo AC coaching staff who dedicate a lot of their own personal time in helping and preparing these Boy's and Girl's for these event's. Happy Running Kid's.
Pictured below are 2 of the "Kid's" who participated on the day.....Amy Deering, and Terence Hayes
......
Easy Riders.....
Two of Sligo AC's long distance road runners Ciaran Donnellan and
Declan Foley are hitting the roads in a different manner on June 09th
and 10th and all for a very worthy cause. The 2 lads are cycling from
Dublin to Sligo to raise funds for the Sligo Cancer Support Centre.
This is a journey that most people would complain about doing in their
car so great respect goes to Ciaran and Declan for under taking this
long journey on 2 wheels, but as the lads are well used to long miles
on just 2 legs this will be no problem to them. Ciaran and Declan
recently held a very successful Table quiz in the Glass House Hotel
and raised much needed funds for the Sligo Cancer Support Centre and
the lads are still seeking further donations and they can be contacted
at 0868216499 and 0876263299 and all donations will be gladly accepted
and badly needed no matter how big or small, so please support these 2
lads. Best of luck to both Ciaran and Declan from all their colleagues
in Sligo AC and above all safe cycling.
